EDMONTON — Kitwana Jones' time in Edmonton was short, and not so sweet.
The Edmonton Esks released the veteran import defensive lineman on Wednesday in the wake of Monday’s 32-8 loss to the Calgary Stampeders.

Jones, who is in his fifth Canadian Football League season, is now set to sign a new deal with his former Saskatchewan Roughriders, who the Esks play in back-to-back situations starting on Sept. 20 at Mosaic Stadium.

Jones, 28, had seven tackles, 10 special-team tackles, one fumble recovery and one sack. The small, but quick linebacker/rush end was brought in from Saskatchewan in mid-May in exchange for quarterbacking prospect Juan Joseph.

The Esks are also expected to bring import offensive lineman Garrick Jones off the nine-game injured list. He may be able to play on Friday in the return match against the Calgary Stampeders.

Defensive lineman Adam Braidwood’s time on the nine-game injured list also expires, but he’s expected to be put back on, thus ending his season.

There were rumours earlier in the week that the Esks were about to trade or release Garrick Jones, who had been out with a shoulder injury, but general manager Danny Maciocia denied both on Tuesday afternoon.

It was uncertain whether the left offensive guard would be ready for Friday’s game at Commonwealth Stadium.

Linebacker Maurice Lloyd and running back Calvin McCarty, both out with hamstring injuries, could be ready for the game against Calgary
