RIDERS PLACE NINE PLAYERS ON WEST ALL STAR TEAM

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are pleased to announce that nine players have been chosen to the Western Division All-Star team. The Green and White had four players picked on offence and five on defence. The Division All-Stars were selected by 62 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC), the eight CFL head coaches and CFL fans from across the country.

DARIAN DURANT (QB): In his first full season as starting quarterback, Durant became only the fourth Rider in team history to surpass the 4,000 yard passing mark. The Rider pivot finished the season completing 339 of 562 passes for 4348 yards and 24 touchdowns. The first time western all-star also rushed for 501 yards and three touchdowns. Durant was also named the Riders nominee as Most Outstanding Player.

WESTON DRESSLER (WR): In his second CFL season, Dressler earns his first western all-star nomination. The 24-year old receiver led the riders with 62 receptions for 941 yards and four touchdowns despite missing the final four games of the regular season. Dressler was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie last season.

GENE MAKOWSKY (OL): In his 15th CFL season, Makowsky earns his sixth straight western all-star nomination. The 35-year old lineman has also been named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman twice and was the Riders nominee as top lineman this season. Makowsky started 14 regular season games this season at tackle and guard.

JEREMY O’DAY (OL): In his 13th CFL season, O’Day earns his fifth western all-star nomination. O’Day has also been named a CFL all-star twice. The 35-year old lineman started all 18 regular season games at centre this season.

STEVIE BAGGS (DE): In his fourth CFL season, Baggs earns his first all-star nomination. Baggs led the CFL with 12 quarterback sacks this season. He also picked up 55 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, four tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

JOHN CHICK (DE): In his third CFL season, Chick earns his first all-star nomination. The 26-year old started 16 games at defensive end this season and recorded 32 defensive tackles, 11 quarterback sacks, four tackles for a loss and two fumble recoveries. Chick was also nominated as the Riders Most Outstanding Defensive Player this season.

TAD KORNEGAY (LB): In his fifth CFL season, Kornegay gets his first all-star recognition. The 27-year old started all 18 games this season at linebacker and halfback. Kornegay finished the year with 74 defensive tackles, ten special teams tackles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions.

SEAN LUCAS (LB): In his fourth CFL season, Lucas receives his first all-star nomination. The 25-year old led the riders with 81 defensive tackles while starting 17 games at linebacker. Lucas also added four special team tackles, four quarterback sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

LANCE FRAZIER (DB): In his fourth CFL season, Frazier earns his first all-star recognition. The 28-year old halfback led the Riders with five interceptions while starting 16 regular season games. Frazier added 38 defensive tackles and six pass knockdowns.
