- In the photo above you see Ole Miss offensive coordinator Kent Austin working with his quarterback in advance of today's Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. You can watch the game today on Fox (ch. 34 in Regina) as the 8-4 Runnin' Rebels take on the 11-1 Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Leader Post says the game is at 1:00pm. I will be slow-cooking chili and serving it with nacho scoops. Our girls are surprisingly pumped about the game and we'll be crowded around the big screen. John Lynch did not sleep last night in anticipation of this contest. Go Rebs!- Saturday Danny Barrett's University of Buffalo Bulls take on UCONN (Maurice Lloyd's alma mater) in the International Bowl at Skydome on ESPN. TSN traditionally carries that game, but I'm not sure if they will be this year.

Rider GM Eric Tillman told me he's not interested in getting into a "play-by-play" of the team's contract negotiations with its potential free agents. Nor am I. But it's pretty much a guarantee they're going to lose "3 or 4" players that they don't want to, according to Eric. It's a sign of the times.-

Did anybody else notice the massive coverage in the Leader Post in the New Year's Eve edition of the paper regarding a new domed stadium in Regina? Rob Vanstone went deep in talks with Rider Chairman Rob Pletch and Executive member Paul Hill regarding the Riders' plans.

Both are in favour of getting it done. And since I had time I read some of the news section and there are positive comments from Pat Fiacco regarding a new stadium. It's all good news.- I asked that high-ranking government official at the Brandt Centre on the weekend about "what about Alberta -- they're debt-free and don't have a stadium. What gives there?"His answer was -- "Who cares about what Alberta does?"Love it!
